Science Square

The Science Square is used for popular science display, leisure activities and functional area expansion. The exhibits are distributed around Building 1 and Building 2, including weather station and other outdoor exhibits.

Science Education Activities

“Secrets of Life, Technology and Everyday life, Survival Through Nature " Exhibition-Education Combined Course System

With the theme of ——“Secrets of Life, Technology and Everyday life, Survival Through Nature”the main exhibition hall of BJSC has integrated this theme into the entire process of planning and implementation of its exhibition and course system. Underlain by the exploration of the laws of life, the pursuit of a high-quality life and the concern for our living environment, the courses have been designed on the basis of exhibits to put students at the center, to advocate the all-round development of people and to educate students on "virtue, wisdom and mindset". Guided by the development philosophy of "combining exhibition with education and putting emphasis on education", BJSC has developed its unique "Secrets of Life, Technology and Everyday life, Survival Through Nature" exhibition-education combined course system.

Consisting of three primary themes (Secrets of Life, Technology and Everyday life, Survival Through Nature) and 20 secondary themes, the course system offers a total of 120 exhibition-education combined courses targeting students of Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6 and Grades 6-7 (30 courses for each group).

Science On a Sphere

The "Science On a Sphere" global display system developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States has more than 900 popular science resources, mainly astronomy and geography. BJSC has teamed up with science teachers from elementary and middle schools and scientists from universities and colleges to develop 4 Mars-related courses, 26 geography courses and 1 online popular science drama related to Mars.

Special Effects Theater

The Special Effects Theater currently has 13 dome movies, 5 giant screen movies and 3 4D movies, and conducted an internal trial operation during the National Science Day in September this year. By working with experts and teachers from the National Meteorological Administration and other institutions, BJSC launched a series of activities themed on "Watching Movies and Talking Science", including movie watching and lectures, movie appreciation meeting, online lectures and popular science video production, so as to fully exploit the value of these movies and to expand their connotations.

Beijing Mobile Science Center

The Center has more than 200 exhibits and 5 sets of supporting courses, which cover mechanics, acoustics, optics, mathematics, etc. Adopting modular design, the exhibits for tour exhibition are small but sophisticated, and various popular science resources, such as exhibits, courses, interactive activities and popular science dramas, can be tailored to the needs of schools. By integrating the learning of scientific thoughts and scientific methods into the exhibition, we can achieve way better outcomes than traditional exhibitions.

The Concrete Mathematics Laboratory of 2020 marks a novel attempt of BJSC. Using the commonly seen educational exhibits of Beijing Mobile Science Center, this exhibition put its main focus on the training of mathematical thinking. Under the guidance of Beijing Association for Science and Technology, BJSC has, through classification, combination and exploitation of connotations, successfully developed an array of mathematical thinking training courses underpinned by the scientific thoughts and methods that the exhibits are trying to convey.

Beijing Science Popularization Troupe

Sponsored and promoted by BJSC, the Troupe serves as an exchanges and cooperation platform for the production, performance and promotion of popular science dramas, and avoids the limitations of the traditional practice of engaging science museum alone in the creation, production, performance and rehearsal of popular science dramas. Under the membership registration system, all members can apply for grants for the production and performance of popular science dramas. Science teachers and art teachers from elementary and middle schools are welcome to register as members of the Troupe and attend theoretical seminars and practical activities such as science drama salons and the related promotional events. All types of school-based drama clubs can apply for grants from the Troupe and the funding for the performance of popular science dramas.

Major Science Communication Events ——Beijing Science Festival

On September 19, 2020, the 10th Beijing Science Festival kicked off at BJSC.
